Background: Although the contexts, structures and administrations of early childhood education (ECE) may differ internationally, effective pedagogical leadership remains an essential component in supporting young children’s development and learning. The aim of this paper is to answer why collective memory should be taken into account in the linguistic discursive analysis of the Silesian collective identity construction, presented in the periodical entitled "Schlesische Provinzialblätter". Starting with the historical background of the periodical and making references to cultural and sociological studies related to collective identity, the author attemptes to identify the role played by collective memory in identity-building discourses and presents methodological propositions for a linguistic depiction of this phenomenon.
